Does using a swivel really affect fishing success?

I have never seen any scientific evidence that conclusively proves that a swivel impacts success; however, there is evidence that it impedes the intended action of lures.  In addition, it is another unnatural item in the whole presentation that fish can see.  So, in my opinion, why push the issue.  Just take the few extra seconds to forego the swivel and tie a knot.  In that way, you eliminate any chance that you are not getting strikes because of poor action or fish seeing the swivel.  I personally don't even own any swivels.

Do polarized sunglasses really help?

Polarized sunglasses can help significantly to see both fish and underwater structure more clearly and accurately and help your visual acuity even if you are not looking into the water.  However, remember that polarized sunglasses are only worth buying if seeing into the water better is significant for the type of fishing you do.  I personally own a pair of Costar del Mar Triple Tails with copper (vermillion) lens available at Bass Pro Shops.
